Social Media Tools – Increasing Capacity Within the Settlement Sector

From YouTube and Facebook to wikis and blogs, online communications are having an incredible impact on society and how we get and use information in our organizations. But what do they really do? How can we use them? Should we be using them? Studies within the settlement sector have shown that our clients, volunteers and leaders are often amongst the most sophisticated users of technology, and have expectations about being able to communicate with us quickly and easily. How do we reach out to them with information in ways they can use?

You may be interested in learning how to use social media tools in your work but just can’t find the time to learn. Adding to your time constraints and work pressures, you are recognizing that many of your clients need to become digitally literate so they can fully participate as citizens and members of an increasingly complex, fast moving and changing world. This workshop will help you increase your social media skills so that the digital divide that pushes your clients further out on the fringes of society will be decreased. You will be able to help your clients access online resources more effectively and build stronger relationships within their support system. Simply put, having and using digital literacy skills will enable you to better serve your clients in an increasingly networked community.

This workshop will give you practical tools to help you in your work and your professional development. We will also provide you with a planning document that can assist you in further developing your social media skills and implementing an online communication strategy in your workplace.
